The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) conducted a learning session on the direction of the Matatag Curriculum and the ways it should be implemented by the schools. The session is titled: What Happened to You, MATATAG?” Clarifications on the Phased Implementation of the Revised K to 10 Curriculum, which was discussed by the Department of Education Assistant Secretary for Curriculum and Teaching, Mr. Janir T. Datukan.
Asec. Datukan shared with the 382 attendees the progress of the Matatag Curriculum since its launch in 2023. He highlighted key milestones, including the focused instruction on foundational skills, a clearer and more intentional integration of 21st-century competencies, and an intensified emphasis on Values Education.
He even emphasized that the learners are the heart of this new
curriculum. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for students to
be taught in a way that ensures strong literacy and numeracy
skills, the enhancement of 21st-century competencies, and the
development of both a nationalistic mindset and a global perspective.
Toward the end of the discussion, Values Education has been given focus and importance especially the intensified implementation of character-building programs. It was clarified that Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) or Values Education (VE) and Christian Living Education are distinct and separate learning areas, allowing for a more structured and focused approach to the moral and ethical development of students. This shift reflects a deliberate effort to nurture character formation as an essential part of holistic education.
In this Learning Session, MATATAG is explained to remain as MATATAG—firm, focused, and aligned with the mission of delivering quality education.
