As we end our Christmas Countdown, letโs remember that the true essence of this season is not in the gifts under the tree but in the love, faith, and joy we share with one another. For our last trivia, let us know more about Christ’s parents, Joseph and Mary:
The name ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฉ๐ก means “๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐” in Hebrew, reflecting his role in adding protection and provision to Jesus’ life on earth as his earthly father.
Joseph, often referred to ๐๐ฌ ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ (Matthew 13:55), was likely a “tekton,” a term that also implies he could have worked with stone or construction. This humble profession underscores his modest and hardworking nature and the care that he also exhibited in raising Jesus.
Maryโs name in Hebrew is “๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฒ๐๐ฆ” (Miriam), which is often interpreted to mean “๐๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐,” “bitter,” or “rebellious.” In Greek, her name is “Maria.”
Mary is traditionally believed to have been a ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐ข๐, linking her to the royal lineage prophesied for the Messiah. Mary was likely born and raised in Nazareth, a small village in Galilee. Nazareth was an obscure town, emphasizing the humility of her background.
๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฉ๐ก’๐ฌ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐: When Joseph learned of Maryโs pregnancy, he initially decided to divorce her quietly to avoid public disgrace. However, an angel appeared to him in a dream, explaining that Maryโs child was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20-21). Joseph, described as a righteous man, obeyed the angelโs message and took Mary as his wife.
๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐: Their betrothal served as a critical part of the story of Jesusโ birth. It ensured that Mary was protected and that Jesus would be legally recognized as Josephโs son, fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah being a descendant of King David.
From our MCPI family to yours, Merry Christmas! May your hearts be filled with peace and your homes with laughter.
